Selon des précisions de RFI, leur enlèvement n’avait pas été revendiqué, ajoutant que leurs ravisseurs les ont finalement relâchés, non loin de la zone où les membres de l’Eglise avaient été enlevés. Les cinq hommes, retrouvés en bonne santé, auraient été déposés au bord de la route, entre Bankass et Bandiagara.
Si cet enlèvement n’a pas été revendiqué, les groupes terroristes, notamment la Katiba du Macina, liée à Al-Qaïda au Maghreb islamique (AQMI), très active dans le Sahel, et qui a souvent commis des exactions au Mali, a été soupçonnée d’être à l’origine de ce rapt, qui a bien fini. Le maire de Ségué ayant ramené les cinq religieux qui devront être entendus par la gendarmerie de Bandiagara.
