Le conseil des gouverneurs du Fonds monétaire international (FMI) a approuvé une nouvelle allocation générale de droits de tirages spéciaux (DTS) équivalente à 650 milliards de dollars, le montant le plus important de l’histoire du FMI, dans un effort de stimuler la liquidité mondiale dans le contexte de la pandémie de COVID-19, selon un communiqué publié lundi par l’institution financière.
« C’est une décision historique – la plus grande allocation de DTS dans l’histoire du FMI et une stimulation bienvenue pour l’économie mondiale dans un moment de crise sans précédent », a déclaré la directrice générale du FMI, Kristalina Georgieva.
Notant que l’allocation de DTS va bénéficier à tous les membres du FMI, satisfaire la nécesssité mondiale à long terme en terme de réserves, construire la confiance et favoriser la résilience ainsi que la stabilité de l’économie mondiale, Mme Georgieva a indiqué qu’elle aidera particulièrement les pays les plus vulnérables à faire face à la crise de la COVID-19.
L’allocation générale de DTS entrera en vigueur le 23 août, d’après le communiqué.
