Un violent incendie s’est déclaré dans le Var, dans le sud de la France, lundi, selon la préfecture du département, attisé par un violent mistral et des températures caniculaires. Des milliers de personnes dont des touristes ont été évacuées préventivement.
Un important feu de forêt s’est déclaré lundi 16 août dans le Var, dans le sud de la France. Mardi matin, il avait parcouru au moins 3 500 hectares de forêt et de garrigue dans le massif des Maures. Le président Emmanuel Macron se rendra sur place avec le ministre de l’Intérieur Gérald Darmanin.
« Des milliers de personnes ont été évacuées à titre préventif, mais il n’y a aucune victime », selon une porte-parole des pompiers du Var. Les évacuations ont eu lieu dans l’arrière-pays de Cavalaire et de Saint-Tropez, notamment autour des villages de Grimaud ou de La Môle, a précisé la commandante Delphine Vienco. Quelque 900 pompiers luttent contre ce feu qui est toujours très virulent.
La préfecture du Var a également confirmé l’évacuation de plusieurs campings et demandé « de ne pas encombrer les routes autour du Golfe de Saint-Tropez » pour laisser travailler les secours.
L’incendie qui s’est déclaré lundi au niveau de l’aire d’autoroute des Sigues sur l’A57, à une centaine de kilomètres au nord-est de Toulon, avait parcouru 3 500 hectares de forêt et de garrigue dans le massif des Maures, mardi matin, selon les pompiers. « Il s’agit de la surface parcourue mais il est trop tôt pour estimer la surface brûlée », ont précisé les pompiers qui reprennent les largages d’eau par avion et hélicoptère en plus des moyens de lutte au sol.
« Les conditions sont défavorables avec un vent fort et de fortes températures », ont-ils précisé. « L’incendie est très vaste et se propage à une vitesse de quatre kilomètres par heure, c’est une lutte très difficile », selon la commandante Delphine Vienco.
Des pompiers sont venus en renfort de plusieurs départements du Sud-Est de la France.
« Nous avons réussi à éviter dans la nuit que le feu touche la Garde-Freinet », un village situé dans le massif des Maures, à une vingtaine de kilomètres de Saint-Tropez.
Le président français Emmanuel Macron est attendu mardi après-midi, avec le ministre de l’Intérieur Gérald Darmanin, au PC Sécurité du Luc (Var) de lutte contre l’incendie qui ravage depuis lundi l’arrière-pays de Saint-Tropez, a annoncé l’Élysée.
Un centre opérationnel départemental a été activé en début de soirée lundi par la Préfecture.
Selon la dernière évaluation communiquée sur Twitter par les pompiers du Var, les flammes avaient parcouru 22 km depuis lundi.
Si de nombreux pays méditerranéens ont été touchés par de graves incendies cet été –Grèce, Italie, Algérie, Espagne, Maroc–, la France et notamment la Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, habituellement très touchée l’été, avait été relativement épargnée jusqu’ici. Mais ce feu devrait être l’un des plus importants de la saison dans la région.
Le mistral arrivé sur la Provence lundi a nourri plusieurs autres feux dans la journée, aux portes de Marseille notamment, à l’entrée du parc national des Calanques, ou dans le Var encore, vers la presqu’île de Giens. Ces deux incendies ont par contre été fixés.
Préventivement, la totalité des 25 massifs forestiers des Bouches-du-Rhône sont interdits d’accès mardi, de même que les massifs des Monts toulonnais dans le Var.
