Le procès de l’assassinat de l’ancien Président du Burkina Faso, Thomas Sankara, débutera le 11 octobre prochain, à Ouagadougou. L’ancien dirigeant avait été exécuté, en 1987, avec douze autres personnes, lors d’un coup d’Etat.
C’est ce mardi 17 août 2021 que le procureur militaire du Burkina Faso a annoncé que le procès de l’assassinat de l’ancien Président Thomas Sankara, tué en 1987 suite à un coup d’Etat, débutera le 11 octobre prochain, à Ouagadougou, la capitale de ce pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest. Thomas Sankara a été tué alors qu’il n’avait que 37 ans.
« Le procureur militaire près le tribunal militaire de Ouagadougou informe l’opinion nationale et internationale que le procès des personnes mises en cause dans l’affaire de l’assassinat du Président Thomas Sankara et de ses douze compagnons s’ouvrira le lundi 11 octobre 2021 à partir de 9 heures », indique un communiqué repris par l’AFP. Thomas Sankara était arrivé au pouvoir par un coup d’Etat en 1983.
Le texte mentionne que le procès sera délocalisé « dans la salle des banquets de Ouaga 2000 » et sera ouvert au public. Parmi les accusés figure l’ancien Président Blaise Compaoré, exilé en Côte d’Ivoire, après avoir été chassé du pouvoir par un soulèvement populaire. Outre Blaise Compaoré, il y a le général Gilbert Diendéré, qui purge une peine de vingt ans de prison.
C’est en avril dernier, après la confirmation des charges contre les principaux accusés, dont l’ex-Président Blaise Compaoré, que le dossier avait été renvoyé devant le tribunal militaire de Ouagadougou. Douze autres accusés seront jugés pour « atteinte à la sûreté de l’Etat », « complicité d’assassinats » et « complicité de recel de cadavres ».
