En raison de la progression en Europe du variant Omicron, qui complique les déplacements pour les joueurs expatriés, et de la pression des clubs du Vieux Continent, la CAF a organisé ce dimanche un comité exécutif en présence de Gianni Infantino et de Fatma Samoura, respectivement président et secrétaire générale de la FIFA. L’objet du jour ? Tout simplement décider ou non du maintien de la compétition… Le patron de la CAF au Cameroun mercredi ?
D’après les informations de RMC Sport, aucune décision (maintien ou report) n’a obtenu un vote majoritaire et l’instance panafricaine compte encore se donner du temps avant de trancher. Cela dépendra notamment du ressenti du président de la CAF, Patrice Mostepe, qui devrait se rendre au Cameroun mercredi à l’occasion d’une visite qui s’annonce déjà décisive.
De son côté, le pays-hôte, qui a présenté jeudi un protocole sanitaire très strict, fait tout pour éviter le scénario catastrophe que représenterait un report et tente de persuader la CAF que le tournoi peut avoir lieu dans les meilleures conditions. Mais tout dépendra de l’issue du bras de fer entre l’instance panafricaine et les clubs européens…
