Après une dizaine d’année d’exil entre le Maroc, l’Éthiopie, les États-Unis et la France, Sekouba Konaté a regagné le pays de ses ancêtres samedi 18 décembre. Il est arrivé par la route en provenance de Bamako au Mali où il a salué la famille de l’ancien président ATT à qui il était très lié. Très populaire encore dans son fief, il a reçu tous les honneurs dû à son rang.
En exil forcé depuis 2011 par l’ancien régime d’Alpha Condé à qui il avait, ironie du sort, cédé le pouvoir en décembre 2010, l’ancien président de la transition Sekouba Konaté a été chaleureusement accueilli par les siens dans sa région natale de la Haute-Guinée.
En compagnie d’une poignée de proches, il a d’abord rendu visite aux notables de Kankan, la principale ville de la région avant de se rendre dans son village toujours dans la région des savanes.
Dans une déclaration à la presse locale, il a invité les Guinéens au rassemblement derrière le nouveau maître de Conakry qui a facilité son retour au pays.
Il a par ailleurs indiqué son intention de se rendre dans la capitale pour saluer le colonel Mamadi Doumbouya et le remercier de vive voix de lui avoir permis de revoir sa famille restée en Guinée après onze ans de séparation forcée.
Sekouba Konaté avait été éloigné de son pays par Alpha Condé et Blaise Compaoré, l’ancien président du Burkina Faso, au prétexte de lui permettre de diriger une force africaine… qui n’a jamais vu le jour.
D’autres exilés comme l’ancien président Moussa Dadis Camara qui a pris le pouvoir au lendemain du décès du général Lansana Conté en décembre 2008 est aussi attendu dans les jours prochains.
