Après Antoine Bell, Samuel Eto’o, la légende du football togolais, Emmanuel Adebayor, s’est également attaquée aux clubs européens qui ne facilitent pas la participation des joueurs africains à la CAN 2022.
La 33ème édition de la Coupe d’Afrique des nations devrait démarrer le 9 janvier prochain au Cameroun. De nombreux joueurs africains évoluant sur le continent européen doivent participer à cette compétition. Sauf que certains clubs européens ne permettent pas à leurs joueurs de se déplacer pour prendre part à la CAN 2022. L’Association européenne des clubs (ECA) a d’ailleurs envoyé une lettre à la FIFA dans laquelle elle explique pourquoi elle est réticente à envoyer ses joueurs à cette compétition.
La principale préoccupation de l’ECA est l’absence d’un protocole médical et opérationnel approprié pour le tournoi. Cependant, Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor estime qu’aucune équipe ne devrait avoir le droit d’empêcher un joueur de représenter son pays. « Il n’y a aucun entraîneur au monde qui peut m’empêcher de jouer à la CAN », a déclaré Adebayor à Ghanasoccer. « C’est dégoûtant que certaines personnes essaient d’empêcher les joueurs africains de jouer à la CAN », a-t-il conclu.
Avant Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor, d’autres anciennes gloires du football africain avaient également critiqué avec vigueur l’attitude de l’Association européenne des clubs (ECA), à l’instar des Camerounais Joseph Antoine Bell et Samuel Eto’o Fils. Cependant, le coach du FC Nantes, Antoine Kombouaré, a fait savoir qu’il est prêt à laisser partir tous ses internationaux africains, pour disputer la prochaine Coupe d’Afrique des nations.
