Caroline est orpheline de père et est atteinte d’albinisme. Âgée de 17 ans, la jeune fille fait l’objet de stigmatisation qui ne fragilise pas du tout son élan de s’affirmer dans sa communauté.
Élève en classe de 6e des humanités Latin-Philo dans une école de fortune dans la Commune de Selembao, dans la façade Sud de Kinshasa, Caroline est un symbole de résilience. Comme d’autres malades atteints de l’albinisme, la jeune fille de 17 ans fait face à plusieurs défis dont les préjugés et les stéréotypes du fait de cette maladie qui prive sa peau, ses cheveux et ses yeux de mélanine.
« Parfois mes collègues se moquent de moi. Certains ne cessent de crier derrière moi « albinos ». Ils se font des préjugés sur moi », dénonce-t-elle avec tristesse. Cependant, cette fausse perception autour de Caroline, ne l’affecte en rien. « Je suis fière de ma peau. Les albinos sont des personnes à part entière. Les jugements, les stéréotypes et les préjugés qui se construisent autour d’eux n’ont aucun sens », assène-t-elle, tout en précisant qu’elle se démarque aussi par ses bons résultats à l’école.
Rêver grand
Malgré qu’elle n’ait jamais connu son père, la jeune fille au regard doux compte sur l’amour inconditionnel de sa maman. « Ma mère est très attentionnée. Elle fait tout pour moi », dit-elle. Dopée par cet amour et l’affection de ses 4 frères et de ses 2 sœurs, Caroline rêve de devenir l’avocate des personnes atteintes de l’albinisme, afin de déconstruire les mythes que la société développe autour de cette maladie génétique. « Je rêve de devenir avocate. Je m’accroche à ce rêve noble pour défendre les droits de mes pairs », confie-t-elle.
Devenir « avocate » n’est pas du tout une mince affaire. Et Caroline l’a bien compris. Pour réaliser son rêve, elle s’inspire des femmes qui se démarquent des autres dans la sphère politique en République Démocratique du Congo. « J’admire le courage de la députée Eve Bazaiba et la ferveur de l’ancienne présidente de l’Assemblée nationale, Jeanine Mabunda. L’important est de rester focus sur ses objectifs et travailler dur pour réaliser ses rêves », dit-t-elle avec détermination. Ainsi, après le cycle secondaire, elle projette de poursuivre ses études universitaires en Droit, dans une institution universitaire de Kinshasa, sa ville natale.
Vivre sans complexe
Après les cours, Caroline passe la majeure partie de son temps dans une boutique familiale. Cette occupation lui permet de participer activement à la stabilité dans son foyer. « Comme d’autres enfants, je suis très engagée dans les activités au niveau familial. Je vends des tomates, des beignets et d’autres produits de première nécessité afin de participer à la survie de ma famille », confie-t-elle. Outre les activités familiales, elle participe également aux activités de son église. Pour elle, ce dynamisme lui « permet de sensibiliser tant soit peu son entourage sur l’albinisme ».
