Le prince Harry a lancé une action en justice pour pouvoir bénéficier d’une protection policière, qu’il payerait personnellement, lorsqu’il se rend avec sa famille au Royaume-Uni, a indiqué un représentant légal.Harry, duc de Sussex, et son épouse Meghan ont perdu leur protection policière au Royaume-Uni après avoir décidé de se mettre en retrait de la famille royale en 2020. Le couple vit aujourd’hui en Californie avec leurs enfants Archie et Lilibet.
“Trop dangereux”
Le prince souhaite emmener ses enfants dans son pays natal mais sa famille et lui « ne peuvent pas retourner chez lui » car c’est trop dangereux, a déclaré un représentant légal de Harry, citant notamment des menaces « extrémistes et néo nazies ». À l’été 2021 « sa sécurité avait été compromise en raison de l’absence de protection de la police lorsqu’il a quitté un événement caritatif », a-t-il poursuivi. Le 30 juin, après une rencontre avec des enfants malades, sa voiture avait été poursuivie par des paparazzi à Londres.
Famille royale sous pression
Cette action en justice lancée en septembre et visant à rééxaminer une décision du ministère de l’Intérieur risque d’embarrasser la famille royale, déjà confrontée à la menace de procès aux Etats-Unis pour agressions sexuelles visant le prince Andrew. Pour préserver la monarchie, la reine Elizabeth II a privé cette semaine son fils Andrew de tout rôle officiel et de ses titres militaires mais des voix s’élèvent pour qu’il paye désormais pour sa propre sécurité.
“Toujours” sa “patrie”
Le représentant du prince Harry fait valoir que « le Royaume-Uni sera toujours la patrie du prince Harry et un pays dans lequel il veut que sa femme et ses enfants soient en sécurité », dans un communiqué à l’agence de presse PA. Lilibet (le surnom donné à la reine Elizabeth quand elle était enfant), âgée de sept mois, n’a pas encore rencontré son arrière-grand-mère Elizabeth II ni son grand-père le prince Charles. La dernière visite du prince Harry au Royaume-Uni remonte à l’été dernier pour le dévoilement le 1er juillet d’une statue représentant sa mère Diana, décédée à Paris en 1997 dans un accident de voiture après avoir été poursuivie par des paparazzi.
Sixième dans l’ordre de succession
« Le prince Harry a hérité à la naissance d’un risque pour sa sécurité, à vie. Il reste sixième dans l’ordre de succession au trône, a effectué deux missions de combat en Afghanistan et, ces dernières années, sa famille a été soumise à des menaces extrémistes et néo nazies », indique son représentant légal.
No comment à Londres
Un porte-parole du gouvernement a déclaré que le système entourant la protection des personnalités était « rigoureux et proportionné » et n’a pas souhaité donner de détails sur ces arrangements ni sur la procédure judiciaire lancée.
