Les rebelles houthis, au Yémen, ont tiré coup sur coup, lundi 24 janvier, des missiles balistiques contre les Émirats arabes unis, qui les ont interceptés, et l’Arabie saoudite, où deux personnes ont été blessées, franchissant un nouveau palier dans les attaques contre leurs deux adversaires.
L’Arabie saoudite et les Émirats font partie d’une coalition qui intervient depuis 2015 au Yémen en guerre, pour soutenir militairement le pouvoir face aux Houthis. Ces derniers contrôlent la majeure partie du nord du pays et la capitale Sanaa.
Les trois pays se trouvent dans la péninsule arabique : le Yémen est frontalier de l’Arabie saoudite et la capitale des Émirats, Abou Dhabi, est située à quelque 1 500 kilomètres de Sanaa.
Les nouveaux tirs contre les Émirats et l’Arabie saoudite surviennent après une frappe aérienne attribuée à la coalition militaire contre une prison tenue par les rebelles dans le nord du Yémen qui a fait au moins 70 morts vendredi.
La multiplication des attaques contre les Émirats, richissime pays du Golfe qui tient à sa réputation d’oasis de paix au Moyen-Orient, ouvre une nouvelle page dans la guerre du Yémen déclenchée en 2014.
Après avoir revendiqué les attaques contre les Émirats et le royaume saoudien, les rebelles yéménites ont menacé, lundi, d' »intensifier » leurs opérations.
« Nous sommes prêts à répondre à l’escalade par l’escalade », a affirmé le porte-parole militaire des rebelles, Yahya Saree, dans une déclaration télévisée.

« Les défenses anti-aériennes des Émirats ont intercepté et détruit deux missiles balistiques lancés par le groupe terroriste houthis » tôt le matin, a indiqué le ministère de la Défense dans un communiqué à Abou Dhabi.
« L’attaque n’a pas fait de victimes, et les débris des missiles détruits sont tombés autour d’Abou Dhabi », a-t-il ajouté. Les Émirats « prennent toutes les mesures pour protéger le pays de toutes les attaques ».
Quelques heures plus tôt, en pleine nuit, les autorités saoudiennes ont annoncé que deux personnes avaient été blessées par un missile balistique tiré par les Houthis contre la ville de Jazan (sud). Un autre missile balistique tiré vers Dhahran Al-Janoub (sud) a été intercepté.
En réaction, la coalition militaire commandée par Ryiad a indiqué avoir détruit une « plateforme de lancement de missiles balistiques dans la région d’Al-Jawf » dans le nord du Yémen.
