L’évacuation du pont Ambassador par la police canadienne était à l’arrêt samedi soir. Le pont frontalier stratégique avec les États-Unis était bloqué samedi par des manifestants opposés aux mesures sanitaires, au moment où des milliers d’autres contestataires marchaient dans la capitale fédérale Ottawa pour un grand rassemblement.

Le trafic est interrompu depuis cinq jours sur ce pont qui est habituellement la liaison terrestre la plus fréquentée entre le Canada et son voisin du sud et dont dépend en grande partie l’approvisionnement en pièces détachées de plusieurs usines automobiles de la région de Detroit.
Bien que la police canadienne ait réussi à repousser les manifestants se trouvant à l’entrée du pont, de plus en plus de personnes affluaient dans la zone et les opérations d’évacuation semblaient à l’arrêt.
Seizième jour de protestation
Le mouvement des « convois de la liberté » au Canada, qui a débuté dans la capitale fédérale, Ottawa, avec la mobilisation de conducteurs de poids lourds opposés à l’obligation vaccinale imposée pour le franchissement de la frontière américaine, est entré samedi dans son 16e jour.
Il s’est depuis transformé en mouvement de protestation contre les restrictions liées à l’épidémie de coronavirus, de nouveaux manifestants le rejoignant à bord de véhicules légers.
