Le Français Clément Noël a remporté, mercredi à Yanqing, le titre de champion olympique de slalom devant l’Autrichien Johannes Strolz (2e) et le Norvégien Sebastian Foss-Solebagg (3e). C’est la 13e médaille de la France aux JO d’hiver de Pékin.
Clément Noël a slalomé vers l’or olympique, mercredi 16 février, à Yanqing. Sixième après la première manche, le Français a signé le meilleur chrono de la seconde manche pour décrocher le titre au slalom en ski alpin devant l’Autrichien Johannes Strolz (2e) et le Norvégien Sebastian Foss-Solebagg (3e).
À 24 ans, Clément Noël est le premier Français sacré en ski alpin depuis la victoire d’Antoine Dénériaz à la descente, en 2006. Il succède pour la France au palmarès du slalom olympique à Jean-Pierre Vidal (sacré en 2002), Jean-Claude Killy (1968) et aux sœurs Christine (1964) et Marielle Goitschel (1968).
Le skieur français s’était révélé au très haut niveau avec une quatrième place surprise aux JO de Pyeongchang en 2018. Depuis, il a été numéro deux mondial de la spécialité à trois reprises (de 2019 à 2021).
Il décroche le titre olympique au cœur d’un hiver mouvementé : il avait remporté le premier slalom de la saison à Val d’Isère avant de ne plus remonter sur le podium les cinq courses suivantes, frustré par des fautes récurrentes.
Alexis Pinturault, diminué par une épaule, a terminé à une anonyme 16e place, et repartira des Jeux sans médaille individuelle pour la première fois de sa carrière.
