A Madagascar, les autorités locales ont rapporté 14 décès à la suite du passage du cyclone tropical Emnati les 22 et 23 février dans le pays.
Selon un bilan des dégâts publié dimanche soir par le Bureau de gestion des risques et des catastrophes (BNGRC), outre les 14 morts, plus de 150.000 personnes sont sinistrées, tandis que 43.793 autres ont été déplacées dans 92 sites d’hébergement éparpillés dans 11 régions frappées par Emnati.
Emnati est arrivé par la côte orientale du pays avec des vents et pluies très forts. Dans sa trajectoire vers l’ouest, il a traversé des zones déjà affaiblies par d’autres catastrophes naturelles. Le cyclone tropical intense Batsirai avait déjà dévasté plusieurs régions de la partie orientale de Madagascar les 5 et 6 février, avec plus d’une centaine de pertes en vies humaines.
