L’Agence internationale de l’énergie atomique (AEIA) indique avoir perdu le contact avec les systèmes permettant le contrôle à distance des matériaux nucléaires de la centrale de Tchernobyl (Ukraine).
La situation devient très préoccupante. Rafael Grossi, chef de l’AEIA, organisme sous l’égide des Nations unies, a indiqué que «la transmission à distance des données des systèmes de contrôle des garanties installés à la centrale nucléaire de Tchernobyl avait été coupée».
Le terme «garanties» est utilisé décrire les mesures techniques appliquées aux activités et matières nucléaires, dans le but d’empêcher leur propagation et leur utilisation abusive.

Cela fait depuis le 24 février que les forces russes ont pris le contrôle de Tchernobyl. Depuis cette date, plus de 200 techniciens et gardes travaillent d’affilée sous la contrainte. L’AEIA demande à ce que des rotations, des temps de repos et des heures fixes soient autorisés, dans un objectif de maintien de la sécurité de site.
«Je suis profondément préoccupé par la situation difficile et stressante dans laquelle se trouve le personnel de la centrale nucléaire de Tchernobyl et par les risques potentiels que cela comporte pour la sécurité nucléaire», a averti M. Grossi.
LA CENTRALE DE ZAPOROJIA ÉGALEMENT SOUS BANNIÈRE RUSSE
La centrale de Tchernobyl n’est pas l’unique infrastructure d’activités nucléaires sous contrôle russe. À plus de 600 km au sud-est, celle de Zaporojia a subi des frappes d’artillerie, causant un incendie dont Moscou nie être à l’origine.
«Actuellement, la centrale fonctionne normalement. L’administration du site remplit ses fonctions. La situation est entièrement contrôlée par la Garde nationale russe», assure un responsable de la Garde nationale russe.
La centrale de Zaporojia, mise en service entre 1984 et 1995, est la plus grande d’Europe. Ses réacteurs sont de conception moderne comparé à Tchernobyl, qui était la première à être mise en service en Ukraine, en 1970.
