Dans le cadre du projet d’appui à la politique d’aires marines protégées du Sénégal, l’Agence française de développement (AFD) a remis quatre barques motorisées au ministère de l’environnement et du développement durable pour un montant de 66 millions FCFA., informe un communiqué de l’AFD.
La cérémonie de remise s’est déroulée à la Baie de Hann, en présence d’Abdou Karim Sall, ministre de l’environnement et du développement durable, et d’Alexandre Pointier, directeur de l’AFD au Sénégal, informe la même source.
Le projet contribue ainsi au renforcement de la capacité du Gouvernement à gérer des aires marines protégées en s’appuyant sur l’expérience acquise dans des aires établies en zone de mangrove qui sont gérées par les communautés locales.
Le projet d’appui à la politique des aires marines protégées, mis en œuvre par l’Etat du Sénégal, contribue à la préservation de la biodiversité marine et du capital naturel des zones côtières du Sénégal, à travers la conservation et la mise en valeur durable des mangroves du Sine Saloum et de la Casamance, souligne le texte.
Ces équipements de navigation permettront d’améliorer le dispositif de surveillance des aires marines protégées et de renforcer les activités de suivi de la biodiversité.
Les écosystèmes de mangroves sont essentiels à la conservation des littoraux et de la biodiversité : ils stockent le carbone et sont un refuge pour les animaux, notamment les poissons et les oiseaux.
Cependant, les effets du changement climatique, la coupe de bois ou encore la surexploitation des espèces halieutiques menacent l’équilibre de ces milieux fragiles. En Casamance, les zones de mangroves ont régressé de 30 à 45% au cours des 30 dernières années.
