C’est officiel, le premier championnat national d’Awalé a vu le jour le 8 mai 2021, en présence du ministère de la Promotion des Sports et du développement de l’économie sportive. L’initiateur de ce projet est le journaliste-écrivain André Silver Konan, engagé dans le combat de la promotion de la culture africaine.
L’objectif principal de ce tournoi est de créer un engouement particulier autour du jeu de l’Awalé, commençant par la fabrication des plateaux d’Awalé à la vente des graines, en passant par la création d’applications de jeux d’Awalé, téléchargeables sur les téléphones portables, à la récompense des champions d’Awalé.
« Aujourd’hui est un grand jour pour les jeux traditionnels en Côte d’Ivoire. C’est le jour de la victoire de l’Awalé. En lançant ce jeu, je pense particulièrement à mon défunt père, André Konan Bah, un instituteur passionné de l’Awalé, qui m’a fait découvrir ce sport cérébral, patrimoine incroyable de la culture ivoirienne et africaine. Au nom de mon père, amoureux de sa terre et de sa culture, un amour qu’il a transmis à sa progéniture et que nous voulons partager avec vous, nous avons choisi de vulgariser davantage l’Awalé », a déclaré le journaliste-écrivain.
L’awalé se joue sur un plateau, composé de 2 rangées de 6 trous avec un total de 48 graines. Chaque trou reçoit 4 graines au début du jeu. Le but du jeu est de récolter plus de graines que son adversaire. Chaque joueur se place devant une rangée de 6 cases, qui deviennent alors son camp. Le 1er joueur prend toutes les graines de l’un des 6 trous se trouvant de son côté et en dépose une dans chaque trou suivant celui qu’il a vidé. Si la dernière graine est déposée dans un trou de l’adversaire comportant déjà 1 ou 2 graines, le joueur capture les 2 ou 3 graines et celle qu’il devait y déposer . Les graines capturées sont alors sorties du jeu et le trou est laissé vide. Le gagnant d’une partie d’Awalé est celui qui a remporté le plus de graines. Le jeu prend fin lorsque l’un des joueurs n’a plus de graines dans son camp et que son adversaire n’a pas eu l’opportunité de lui en redonner.
La finale de la première édition aura lieu du jeudi 24 au dimanche 27 juin 2021. Un trophée sera remis au gagnant de la finale. Notons qu’un projet de règlement intérieur a été lu par Marie Eugénie Kouamé, membre de l’organisation. Celui-ci va régir la compétition. André Silver Konan a lancé un appel aux potentiels partenaires et sponsors de ce pan important de la culture ivoirienne et africaine.
