Google a fait part jeudi de son intention d’ouvrir cette année à New York sa toute première boutique physique, qui devrait permettre au géant californien d’avancer ses pions dans la compétition avec Apple sur le terrain de l’électronique grand public. Le magasin, qui s’appellera Google Store, ouvrira cet été dans le quartier de Chelsea, où se situent déjà de vastes bureaux fréquentés par les employés de Google.
« Les clients pourront parcourir le Google Store et y acheter une grande sélection de produits fabriqués par Google, qui vont des téléphones Pixel aux produits Nest, des appareils Fitbit aux Pixelbooks et bien d’autres encore », a indiqué le vice-président de Google Jason Rosenthal dans un article de blog. « Ils pourront aussi faire leurs courses en ligne sur GoogleStore.com et récupérer leurs commandes en magasin », a-t-il précisé
Concurrencer Apple
Cette annonce intervient au moment où le géant des moteurs de recherche cherche à rivaliser avec Apple dans la vente de matériel informatique, qu’il s’agisse de smartphones ou de thermostats et de détecteurs de fumée. Google souhaite également capitaliser sur les ventes d’objets connectés pour les activités physiques de la marque Fitbit qu’elle a rachetée en novembre 2019.
« Le nouveau Google Store est une étape importante de notre stratégie produits consistant à offrir l’expérience Google la plus utile qui soit en tous lieux et à tout moment », a affirmé Jason Rosenthal.
Via son réseau mondial d’Apple Store, qui compte plus de 500 boutiques dans 25 pays, la marque à la pomme écoule une grande partie de ses iPhone, iPad et MacBook en magasin. Microsoft a en revanche annoncé l’an dernier la fermeture permanente de la quasi totalité de ses magasins, l’essentiel de ses ventes se faisant désormais sur internet.
